Loy Kratong at Pajamas Koh Chang
Loy means “to float” while Kratong has various meanings, one is “small container made of leaves that floats”. Traditionally, Loy Kratong takes place on the evening of the full moon of the 12th month, thus the date of the festival changes every year. It usually falls into the month of November (western calendar). We show our guests how to make a Kratong in the afternoon – and then we’re going to the canal and let the flower baskets float later in the evening. It’s been said that the festival may originate from an ancient rural ritual, paying respect to the water spirits.
